Reflect on the following questions and answer them in some detail.
1. Which of the possible venues do you think would best suit this play? Why do you believe the dramatic action would be best served in this venue?
I think this play is better suited for a small venue, much like the cellar theatre. This play is meant to be intimately uncomfortable and it would be easier to create that environment in a small venue. The play has a small cast and requires a small set so there is no need for a large venue.
2. What are some of the design challenges posed by the play?
The setting changes frequently so I think it would be vital to keep the set as simple as possible in order to have quick and clean set changes. I think it would be necessary to stage some sort of car and make sure that the audience can clearly see what is happening at all times. The other scenes take place in hotel rooms and dining rooms, and if kept simple, it would be easy to convey the message while shifting back and forth quickly.
3. Choose the various chorus characters and discuss how you see them dressed. In what ways do you think the costumes you describe would help articulate their purpose in this play?
I think the clothing should be simple yet in style for the time period. They should not distract from the message of the show. Lil'l Bit's clothing should convey just how young she is and can used to age her over time. 4. Provide some ideas about the use of light in the play?
I think lighting should be relatively simple. I think maybe if a car is built, it can have lights on it. I think relatively natural room lighting is acceptable for ,most scenes in the play. 5. Suggest music and sound effects that could help accentuate the mood or atmosphere of the play.
I think some of the songs we listened to in class could be used during set changes. All of the songs come off as being inappropriate despite having tender lyrics which is similar to the relationship between Peck and Li'l Bit.
**I think some sort of trigger warning should be printed in all of the playbills and should be voiced before the start of the show. The show contains uncomfortable material that may be sensitive to survivors of sexual abuse.
